Shannon Scott - Senior Pastor

Shannon and his wife Zelma accepted the call to Mt. Vernon as full-time pastor in 1978. Prior to coming to Mount Vernon, Shannon had served in 3 other pastorates. Shannon holds a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Shannon and Zelma are parents of 2 children and proud grandparents of 8 grandchildren. The Bible tell us that "the elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching (1 Tim 5:17)." Under Shannon's direction, God has greatly blessed our church, growing our church body and expanding our ministries.

Joe Easterling - Associate Pastor

Joe and his wife, Anne, have served Mt. Vernon as associate pastor since 2007. Prior to Mt. Vernon, Joe had served for eleven years as Minister of Education and Youth Pastor in their home city of Wilmington, North Carolina. Joe holds a Master of Arts in Christian Education,  as well as a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Joe and Anne are proud parents of two girls. Joe’s ministry verse is 1 Thessalonians 2:8—So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

Matthew Pittman - Minister of Music

Matthew and his wife, Skye, have served Mount Vernon as Minister of Music & Worship since September 2011.  Before accepting the call to Mount Vernon, Matthew served two churches in their home state of Georgia as Minister of Music & Senior Adults and Director of Music Ministries.  Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from Brewton-Parker College and is currently pursuing a Master of Church Music degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He serves as worship leader for all services in addition to being responsible for all aspects of the music ministry here at Mount Vernon.

Kevin Moore - Youth Minister

Kevin and his wife Sandra have been members since 1978. Prior to accepting the call to serve as our Youth Minister in 1998, Kevin worked 13 years with the Department of Justice. Our youth ministry reaches students in the 7^th through 12^th grades. Kevin and Sandra are the parents of 2 boys, who are both members of our youth group.

Mark was born in Georgetown, Guayana, and grew up in Caracas, Venezuela.  Karyn, his wife, is a native of Jamaica, and they are the proud parents of one son.  In 2003, Mark received the "Ambassador for Peace" award for his exemplary living for the sake of others.  He completed his undergraduate degree at Florida International University, and his graduate studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Mark was instrumental in the foundation of our "Local & International" Sunday School class in 2010, and currently oversees the translation of our 11:00 service into several languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Tamil, German, and Russian.  Mark's ministry verse is Mark 10:45 - For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.

Joan Agnor - Church Secretary

Joan is our Church Secretary. A native of Virginia, Joan has been a member of Mt. Vernon since 1985 and employed here since 1996. Prior to that, Joan worked for several TV and Radio stations, owned a home-based Secretarial Service, and worked as a school secretary.  Joan and her husband Bill have 2 children and 6 grandchildren.

Donna Thompson - Financial Secretary

Donna is a native of Wake County. She retired from NC State government and Wake County Public School System after twenty years. She served as secretary at Rolesville Baptist Church for 6 ½ years before coming to Mount Vernon. Donna has been a member of Rolesville Baptist since l972. Donna and her husband, Jackie, have a married daughter, a married son and two grandsons.
