Staff
Shannon and his wife Zelma accepted the call to Mt. Vernon as full-time pastor in 1978. Prior to coming to Mount Vernon, Shannon had served in 3 other pastorates. Shannon holds a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Shannon and Zelma are parents of 2 children and proud grandparents of 6 grandchildren. The Bible tell us that "the elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching (1 Tim 5:17)." Under Shannon's direction, God has greatly blessed our church, growing our church body and expanding our ministries.
Joe and his wife, Anne, have served Mt. Vernon as associate pastor since 2007. Prior to Mt. Vernon, Joe had served for eleven years as Minister of Education and Youth Pastor in their home city of Wilmington, North Carolina. Joe holds a Master of Arts in Christian Education as well as a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is presently working on completing his Doctorate of Education from Southeastern. Joe and Anne are proud parents of two girls. Joe’s ministry verse is 1 Thessalonians 2:8—So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
Aaron and his wife Miriam joined Mt Vernon in 2001. Aaron accepted the position of full-time
Minister of Music
in 2003. Aaron graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
with a Master of Divinity, and he is responsible for all aspects of our
music programs, including our orchestra, as well as being the Worship
Leader for all services.
Kevin and his wife Sandra have been members since 1978. Prior to accepting the call to serve as our Youth Minister in 1998, Kevin worked 13 years with the Department of Justice. Our youth ministry reaches students in the 7th through 12th grades. Kevin and Sandra are the parents of 2 boys, who are both members of our youth group.
Scott is also from West Virginia, and worked as a chef prior to coming on staff as our
Minister of Missions
in 1998. Scott and his wife Kristi have been members since 1996. Scott
leads all the missions programs of our church, including directing the
16 mission points within our Mission Raleigh outreach ministry.
Jewel has been our
pianist since joining our church in 1982. In addition to playing for all services, Jewel serves as
Children’s Choir Director, overseeing all school-grade choirs up to 6
th grade. Jewel and her husband Ray have 3 children.
Joan is our Church Secretary. A native of Virginia, Joan has been a member of Mt. Vernon since 1985 and employed here since 1996. Prior to that, Joan worked for several TV and Radio stations, owned a home-based Secretarial Service, and worked as a school secretary. Joan and her husband Bill have 2 children and 6 grandchildren.
Susan and
her husband David joined Mt. Vernon in 1990 and have 2 children. A
native of Tennessee, Susan’s years of experience in children’s ministry
were evidenced as she orchestrated the start-up of our preschool
program, known as The Growing Place. On staff since 1993, Susan
currently serves as
Preschool Director, overseeing all aspects of the Nursery, Preschool and Growing Place ministries.
Kathy came on staff as our
Children’s Director in 1997, working with our 1
st through 6
th
grade children. She is a native of Wilmington, NC with over 20 years
experience in children’s and youth ministry. Kathy and her husband Leon
have been members since 1996 and have 2 children.
Donna and her husband, Jackie, have lived just outside of Rolesville since their marriage in 1972. Donna retired from State government and Wake County Public School System after twenty years. She served as Secretary at Rolesville Baptist Church from Jan. 2001 thru July 2007 when she came to Mount Vernon. Donna has been a member of Rolesville Baptist Church since 1972 and Jackie since 1957. They have both sung in the Sanctuary Choir since 1973. Donna and Jackie have a married daughter who has a 6-year old son and a married son who has a 3-month old son. Donna is happiest when traveling with Jackie, watching 6-year old Tyler play sports or rocking baby Jackson.
